We Stand With LA Immigrant Communities
We at Represent Justice stand with the immigrant communities of Los Angeles and across the country. We support those exercising their right to protest, those who are marching to demonstrate their profound love for their families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, students, and peers, those who are willing to protect lives. We support those who are taking to the streets to demand that the children, parents, caregivers, workers, fathers, mothers and countless other members of their communities be treated with respect and dignity, and that their rights be honored.
The deployment of illegal ICE raids and armed military being used to brutalize the families and community of Los Angeles by invading and terrorizing their neighborhoods is dehumanizing, hateful, and must come to an end. The national public must understand that this is NOT just “a Los Angeles problem” or a problem to be faced by undocumented community members. What's happening right now is NOT an expression of differences in politics around safety, fairness, or immigration rights. It is the predictable consequence of a deeply ingrained sickness in U.S. culture that places punishment over people, that funds and prioritizes detention, incarceration, and military strength as safety. As a way to retain power and the status quo, this system can, and often will, find its way into peaceful communities, families, relationships and wreak havoc. This is a profound warning to us all.
We urge community members exercising their right to protest to stay safe, to take care, and to lean into mutual aid networks, sharing information and resources.
To those who voted for the current administration, and those who regularly vote against policies that place compassion, empathy and care as principles of safety, now is the time to change your mind. Speak up, use your voice, and direct resources and attention to what is happening.
