Angie Frias
Angela “Angie” Frias is a justice-impacted creative, youth navigator, and teaching artist currently based in Long Beach, working throughout Los Angeles in community arts and film production. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Northern California, she has been affected by the justice system from a young age, with her mother and father incarcerated for much of her life. Angie also spent nine years in the cycle of incarceration and recidivism- an experience that shaped her commitment to helping others break free and find a new path forward.
At the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, Angie guides young people in self-expression and storytelling through art. She leads workshops in digital design and custom clothing creation, teaching youth how to use tools like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to bring their ideas to life on T-shirts and other apparel. She also works with the Conservatory’s podcasting program, POD Pals, collaborating with youth to record and share their personal stories. Whether it’s seeing a young person hold up their first custom T-shirt or hearing their voice played back in a podcast, Angie strives to create moments that build confidence and pride.
Beyond BHAC, Angie serves as a California Justice Leader, using mentorship, resources, and storytelling to empower justice-impacted youth in their reentry journeys.
Angie is also building a career in the entertainment industry, working as a production assistant on commercials, short films, live events, and more. She is exploring both production and art department pathways, driven by a vision to use creativity and storytelling as powerful tools for change.
Angie’s Ambassadorship is supported by our nominating partner, A New Way of Life.
